Pat Boran was born in Portlaoise, Ireland in 1963 and has long since lived in Dublin where he works part-time as an editor and broadcaster. He has held a number of positions as Writer-in-Residence with public libraries and third level institutions.
He has published five full-length collections of poetry, the most recent of which is The Next Life (2012) as well as New and Selected Poems, with an introduction by the late Dennis O'Driscoll (2005), editions of which have appeared in Italian, Hungarian and Macedonian translation. In addition to poetry he has published fiction for adults and children, and his non-fiction includes the humorous memoir, The Invisible Prison: Scenes from an Irish Childhood (2009), and the writers' handbook The Portable Creative Writing Workshop (revised 2013).
He was for many years the presenter of The Poetry Programme on RTÉ Radio, and continues to contribute to other shows. A former Editor of Poetry Ireland Review, he has edited many anthologies of poetry and prose, among them Wingspan: A Dedalus Sampler (2006), Flowing, Still: Irish Poets on Irish Poetry (2009), The Bee-Loud Glade (2009) and Shine On, poetry and prose in support of those affected by mental ill health. He is a member of Aosdána and the 2008 recipient of the US-based Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Poetry Award.
The performance is complemented by traditional Irish music from local musicians Anthony Johnson, Markus Lampela and Brent Ó Caiside.
